Is chocolate healthier than OJ?

Most of us will agree that chocolate is super yummy. But what about super healthy?

A new report has just come out saying, chocolate is healthier than some "super fruits." "Super fruit" is a term given to fruits that have exceptional nutritional content and are high in antioxidants.

Wow. Could an M&M be healthier than a blueberry? Well, this news comes just in time for Valentine's Day. Hmmmm. Wonder if it's an effort for Hershey's to sell more candy this week?

Maybe. Maybe not. According to a study published in Chemistry Central Journal and paid for by Hershey's, shows dark chocolate and cocoa powder have a "greater antioxidant capacity" and a "greater total flavanol and polyphenol content than the fruit juice."

This theory that chocolate's powerful antioxidant benefits are greater than some fruits is encouraging for chocolate lovers.

Researches say when they compared levels of polyphenols and flavanols in cocoa powder to those in fruit powder they found more in the cocoa per gram.

Healthy antioxidants are known to be in fruits, such as berries, grapes and even found in red wine and green tea.

If you're interested in trying some super fruits, try to buy them organic. Atlanta area farmer's markets offer organic produce. Some include the Decatur Farmer's Market, Morningside Farmers Market, the Chamblee Organic Market and the DeKalb Farmer's Market.
